Panama Esmeralda Boquete Geisha

Panama Esmeralda Boquete Geisha

Selected lots of 100% geisha grown above 1,500 meters. High citric acidity. Bold, juicy body.

In 1987, the Peterson family planted major portions of their farm with coffee trees. Seven years later, a Beneficio (coffee processing plant) was installed in order to process all the coffee on the farm itself.

In 1996, the family purchased another farm in the area of Jaramillo, later named Pequena Suecia (Little Sweden) but still referred to as Esmeralda Jaramillo. It was on a section of this farm that Geisha trees were discovered.

This variety was once brought from the heartlands of Ethiopia to Central America and has now become one of the darlings of the specialty coffee world.

The remarkable cup is the result of the cold climate, variety, careful harvesting and inventive processing. At the Esmeralda farm, coffee pickers are carefully instructed to only pick the completely ripe, red fruits. They are paid a premium to do so.

The Geisha coffees from the farm are characterized by their medium plus acidity, a sweet and clean cup with a touch of citrus flavor.

Families at the Esmeralda Farm Betikoffie is the youngest daughter of the Marcucci family. Beti is her Ngäbe (indigenous) name. Her father, Alejandro, has been working at the Beneficio(processing plant) of the Esmeralda farm in Palmira for many years. He is married to Cecilía and together they have 6 children: 3 sons and 3 daughters.
